Default msd 6010 issue?

Today I was messing around with my timing table on my msd box and I noticed when hooked up to the laptop my actual timing was going above the points set on the curve. For example I have 34 degrees set at 2000 rpm and when i rev'd the motor to 2000 rpm the computer told me it was 37 degrees at one point i saw it read 39 degrees. That is way more timing than I want and I want to know if anyone else out there has noticed this. Is it a false reading or is it jumping above my set points for some reason? If it is really going 5 degrees above my set point what can i do to fix this?

Are you running a Map sensor? If so, the sensor is reading vacuum and adding timing.

I never touched the map but that makes sense maybe its on and I did not know. I will check it out tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem and let you know.

I didnt think I was but I will have to check it tomorrow and make sure. If it is on that would make sense and I will have to just 0 it out. 39 degrees is way to much timing I dont want to do damage.

Yea, 37 might be ok, if the compression was low enough, but otherwise, i think 35 is usually best.

There is a max and min timing limit you can set on one of the pull down menu's. Just set the max to what ever you want and the box will never go above that setting no mater where the points are on the table or when adding the vacuum advance with the map.

Turns out the map sensor was on and I did not know. It must have been on by default because I never touched it. Thanks for your help!
