Pro-Street LS3 Power?
I am saving/planning to build an "Old School" Pro-Street car.
I was thinking E-85 Gen 2 SBC or 502 based BBC but the more I hear about the LS engines the more I want to know.
One of my best ideas is a 1970's Ford Maverick with a carb'd LS3 engine(400-430 HP), carb'd intake with a Holley 800 Double Pumper,TH-350 tranny, Mopar Super Stock leafs or Cal-Tracs Monoleafs/Dana 60 rear 4.57-5.13 rear gear(either an Excited or Air Locker),Either Mini-Tubbed for 30X13.5X15 or Tubbed for 31X16.5X15 M/T ET Streets, 6-8 point rollcage, 'glass hood& trunk, aluminum door panels with manual crank windows, Front& Back windows replaced with Lexan.
Could I run Low 11's- High 10's N/A with this combo?
Are there N2O cams for LS engines?

The Maverick, being lighter in weigh than some others i am sure, should be light enough to run its *** of with 450+ RWHP from a cam and carb setup. high 10s with the combo hitting right if the cars weight is around 3000 or so. Especially with those deep gears and a good trans and stall combo.

With a 28X13.5X15 tire a 5.13 rear gear is a 4.76 when teamed with the TH-350's 1st gear of 2.52 and a 3600-4200 stall convertor it should leave hard.
Would a TH700-4R be a better choice than a TH-350(it has a steaper 3.06 1st gear)?
This my idea is Save/Plan/Buy only once.
Can LS engines like your 6.0 be bought whole from a Salvage operation?
If an LS engines runs carb'd does the stock distributor still work?
That is a great time with a 364 cube engine.

The 700R would be better for street use and would leave a bit harder with the deeper 1st gear, the engines are everywhere in salvage yards for 800-1200$ complete, there is no distributor anywhere, here is how mine looks carbed and you can also see the MSD ignition controller:

My opinion on the trans is this: if you plan on alot of highway miles, then the 700r may be the right choice because of the OD, but for drag strip use, the th350, or a th400 is the way to go. If BIG POWER(supercharger/turbo/N2O) is planned on, then a powerglide is the right choice.
edit: no distribtor needed, just an MSD 6012 for 58x ignition system. 6010 for 24x
