air fuel ratio
I know most of the carb guys are more serious track tuners then dyno queens. What afr do you guys shoot for! I have a lot of carb exp and tune a lot of efi LSX engines. I have seen other engines switch from carb to efi and actually require more richer afrs with the efi and leaner worked better with the carb!
I was going to shoot for 12.5:1. I have seen some guys post they lost horsepower at 13.5:1. I have seen a lot of engines on engine dynos make best power at 13.1-13.2:1 afr with carbs.
Obviously every combo is different, but while the thread is active with timing results would also like to hear what afrs most racers are running! I took mine out tonight on the maiden voyage and its in the 10.8-11.0 range at WOT. So I have to jet down!

12.4-13.2 and anywhere in between on cars I've done on dynos. Each combo is different, tune for best mph at the track. I usually keep going up in jets until mph doesn't improve then step back down to the previous size. If jetting up initially has no gains we'll look at the fresh set of plugs to see if it needs to be leaned out and vice versa.

^ Couldnt say it better. I dial mine in at 13.0 if possible. I dont tune for every last ounce of power since i have a wide band, just shoot for 13.0 and let it go, i drive the car daily so i dont care for peak power since i know it is consistent. I thought mine was running good, looked at the plugs and they didnt look bad, installed the wide band and i was 14.5ish. Jetted it up to get the 13.0 and gained 2 MPH.

I have not looked at my A/F guage while running down the track, LOL, but I know it runs around 12.5-12.7 at WFO with 36* in it. I'm not sure if my wideband is dead nuts accurate, but the plugs look nice. I am going to try ignoring the O2, and go up or down on jet to see if mph improves further.

I was wondering the same thing. I just built a turbo blow through carb camaro and i was told to tune it 11.0-11.5ish but i never knew what a N/A car should be tuned to, at least number wise.

Im at 12.8-12.9. I am sounding like an efi tuner (which I am!) but I see a little consistency across the range of plugs now looking leaner on front cylinders so will go up a cpl there and leave the back right where it is!
