Default LS1 Oil Pressure Question?

My buddy just install a LS1 and he's oil pressure is fine when cold.... But when it's hot at a idle is around 18 pounds is this Normal or is something wrong....he says it rises to about 30 when he get on it a little..... Cold at a idle it around 40.... I know on mine it's higher then that but I got a different oil pan and pump.....his is all stock.... Thanks....

That is pretty normal. I believe factory allows as little a 6 psi at idle. Mine does the same thing but even lower. I am geting ready to change the oil pump and I think I am going to shim the pressure regulator spring a little. It is just a piece of mind thing.

My 6.0 hot idle is little above 45 psi with 88,xxx miles. All the trucks i have driven idle about 30-45 hot. But i am sure there is a min of like 6. Even the diesels in big rigs min is about 6 psi hot. May check bearings if you ever have pan off.

I got specs from GM Dealer World. Minimum oil pressure hot is 6 psi at 1000 rpm, 18 psi at 2000 rpm, 24 psi at 4000 rpm.
