Default Tach signal

I have a quick question. How many of you have a tach hooked up to the msd box and what setting do you have it set on 4,6,8 mode. Mine is set on 4 or 6. I want to buy fast ez efi for it and need a clean v8 rpm signal for it to work right. Just making sure it is my tach that is messing up not my box. I called msd and the guy on the phone says it puts out a 12v square wave v8 signal. And i have to have my tach set on something other then 8 and it is brand new. Thanks.

The MSD box is st for a 8 cyl pickup, both of mine are on 8 cyl mode. One is a 6010 and the other a 6012.

Hmm Cause i am almost sure i had to set my tach on 4 or 6 mode to read right....well the closest. It is still a little off but not much. Thanks that make 3 tachs that work on v8 mode and one (mine) that does not. Which is compleat bs cause it is brand spankin new.

The one on my 6.0 reads slow though, cannot keep up with the RPM.

Mine was like half speed of the engine or twice dont remember now. But now it is a little off. I called msd and they sayed it puts out a square wave and maybe the tach can not read it good.

My tach has an adjustment screw on the back. I was able to dial it in by reading the RPM on the MSD software.

It is too slow also. I usually hit the rev limiter as the stock tach is still climbing
