So I am debating on selling my ls1 and going the turbo 5.3 route. The car is built for open road racing so extended rpm for 90 miles is a priority. The reason I want to go 5.3 or 4.8 is they are so cheap and readily available but am concerned with a cheap turbo system lasting 90 milles at high speed. Bolth setups would be carb and run on ethanol. Am I better off just sticking with my ls1 and run n/a with less power or 5.3 turbo and hope it last?

90miles...you mean like the Silver state road race? I would rather just do N/A if your on a budget, a turbo car will need a well thought out cooling system to run for that long and hard and that = $$$ as well. E85 will help a lot though

The car has a rear mounted 31-19 2 core aluminum radiator with a 16 inch fan with a shroud. I am also running a inline electric water pump with the stock belt driven water pump also. Hoping to pull enough air from under the car to cool it, will also have a oil cooler. I know turbo engines generate heat and my car has no air going through the front of it so a n/a setup probably is the better choice. Any more opinions?

i say bigass fmic, but i dont know enough about turbos to speak for the longevity in a racing situation like that.
come to think of it, i dont know enough about racing like that to know if a turbo setup is really necessary (doesnt like like youre at 'stock wagon weight')
either way i want more updates on this as it comes together

idk bout using a chinese turbo for your build. alot of bad **** will happen if it comes apart at speed.

I would say since you are on a budget just concentrate on geting your car setup for roadracing with a decent N/A engine and then after a season or 2 then you could have a good budget for a good turbo build and also may have learned a few new things you havnt thought about along the way.
