Holley 80670 problem

Default Holley 80670 problem

So i took of my holley and installed efi. I sold the carb to my brother and he installed it with a new air gap intake on his sbc. (i know this is not a ls engine but i figured this would be the best place to post this) The problem is when it warms up it looses fuel pressure and smells so bad it makes his eyes water very bad. So i told him to look at his fuel system. He found a few bad areas and replaced them and also replaced the mec. fuel pump. He tries it agian and same proble. But now cold it has 7 psi and then when it starts to warm up it slowly drops fuel psi. and smells treible again. It runs ok and drives he said. The only thing that has ever ben done to the carb is jets, nozzel and power valve. Put new power valve in it when i sold it to him and the factory jets back in. It will die if you screw the idle mix all the way in so i am guessing the power valve is ok. Any ideas?

OK, this may sound dumb, but if the guage works right when it's cold and then gradually goes to nothing as it warms, it may be the type of guage. I had a similar problem when I bought a new OIL FILLED guage and installed it on my Holley regulator I use with a blue Holley pump. Start it up...fuel pressure perfect...within 10-20 minutes, drop to 0-1lbs. Tried everything..no change. Guy on this forum said it's the OIL FILLED guage...change it to the cheap no oil filled type. Absolutely fixed it! If the carb is a vacuum secondary, and you are running a Holley TYPE regulator, DO NOT run a line to each bowl from the two ports on the regulator. Since the back bowl is not flowing fuel, it will gradually build pressure until it pushes needle seat open. Ask me how I know, LOL. Anyway if you are running that type regulator, run fuel line from one port to one of the fuel lines you can buy that splits and runs to each bowl. Ron

You are correct. My brother called holley and that is what he told him. He let it warm up and cooled gauge off with a cold towel and fuel pressure went to 7. I was thinking it is due to the oil getting hot and expanding and creating pressure in the gauge and that was the same as the fuel pressure so it read 0. If he made a tiny hole in the top i bet it would work right. I remember the instrucions saying to vent the pressure sometimes. He has a fuel log that has one inlet and splits to both bowls.
