No money for an intake, so I'm making one.

Been working on my build a fair bit. Got engine/trans mocked up perfectly, chassis engineered, now I'm just getting the intake/headers done so I know what my space constraints are for tubing placement.
Here's a few pics, I will make a build thread when I get more accomplished on this project.
I intend to make the final intake out of carbon fiber once a metal design is proven on the dyno. The design is intended to be universal with different plenum end caps, runner lengths/shapes, and several plenum top plates to allow use of single or dual carbs, as well as efi/nos
the ports will not be squared off like that, I'm just getting the "hardpoints" established at this stage, then I can modify the mold until it beats out the vic jr with a spacer =)
Looking for any advise you guys can offer, I may sell these after proving on the dyno/track.

Cool project. I bet it will not fit under my F-body hood though at that height. What about the runner taper? Shouldn't it get smaller as it runs to the head instead of larger like it is there in the mock-up?

ya I thought about the taper, and height a little...
For my application I'm not too worried about height (gonna be a custom hood anyway) I'm not really making a piece to be as marketable as a vic jr, just figured if it does pan out on the dyno I should be prepared to reproduce a few given the limited intake options out there.
taper I was thinking would come from the radius I use for the plenum to runner area as well as maybe making the ports with a wedge from the sides instead of top/bottom.
I was wondering what you guys think is the best type of gasket for the intake.
the ports will be the same as my stock LS1 efi man. at the head, so I can do o-rings, they're just a bitch to machine if I do a stainless version so I was wondering if there's any other simpler options you guys recommend.
maybe like a roll out cut-yourself material?

I've always had a true passion of hate towards people that put cars on 4x4 truck frames, (maybe because I live in central FL)....but this thing is bitchin, i could see myself throwing it over some dunes............

had a few free minutes to play with it today, plenum will be larger (taller) and there's still alot of work to do on the runner shapes, but here's the basic layout.

well, stainless is what the production model will be. This is a proof of concept, not ever going to be run on a flow bench. It's like a 3/d model I can use for reference on my final design in CAD
and the pics are confusing I know, this design is an efi plenum only. I was originally hoping to make it universal but I realize now it would not work too well for both, so I will be making a new design for carbs. something kinda like a super vic/vic jr hybrid, made of carbon fiber.
I guess this thread should be moved since it's not really carb specific now...

its gonna be street legal in all 50 states, but built for mex. this will be me my daily driver. Im doing custom bodywork just like a trophy/stadium truck. technically its a "truck" according to chevy. weak *** frame tho, I can flex the middle area with my hand, so theres a ton more work happening to this thing I should get a build thread going

Cool intake (can't wait to see the 4150 version) and badass project. If I get rid of my Formula I want a 4X4 truck like an '05+ Tacoma with that kind of suspension and an LS1.

been grinding on my reverse mold for the runners all day, finally have a really nice shape worked up and a good idea how I can make the rest of the molds.
what plenum volume should I go for?
It will likely go on every cathedral ported motor so I'm thinking about 8.5-9 litre plenum should be appropriate.
starting to get a little obsessed with this intake...

Its just a "plug" or original for making the mold. I figured I can get it closer in metal than with bondo/wood since I'm a fabricator not a body guy. but really I could have made it out of plywood and bondo to serve the purpose its intended for. pics soon, been busy with other stuff but this is all I'm thinking about right now...
