6010 startup

Getting ready to start up my swap its a stock 6.0 with victor jr. intake and 750 edelbrock carb. Do I need to install one of the pre programed chips before I can tune it with the laptop?? If so which chip should I use??

Also what is a safe rpm to rev to with stock valvetrain? I know my truck with the 6.0 in it shifts at about 5500 rpm.

You can put in a profile or use one of the chips. doesn't really matter. The chips default to a 5500 RPM redline. The motor doesn't need to be running to load a tune, you just need power to the box. Yoiu might as well load up a tune. Not many guys stick with the pills.

Be aware, you can't use both. A pill will always override any user programming you do...

I use number 6 curve for start up, then go custom from there. If you have a cam, 6500 rpm is the minimum safe rpm, but u spin all mine to 7200, but I just don't mind, so 6800 rev limiter would be ok for any cammed Ls motor.
