Default Intake manifold

I thought I was set on the Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, and before I purchase one in the next week or two I would like to poll you guys and see if this is what I want. I have a gen 4 block bored to 4.070 with -4cc Mahle pistons and a 24 tooth reluxor wheel so I have a MSD 6010 box. I have stock 317 heads with 1.7 rockers and double beehive springs. I have LS7 lifters. I have a set of pacesetter 1 3/4 headers. I do not have a cam yet... Still trying to decide what i want. this motor is going into a 1978 chevy blazer that is 50% mud drag truck, and 50% weekend toy. The Carb I have and will be using is a 800 CFM Quadrajet, so no matter what I do I will need and adapter. I was planning on the Edelbrock manifold but i have been reading that they do not like large cams, so do i want a VIC JR.?

The performer is more of a low rpm intake. If you're planning to use a large cam then get the victor jr. If you're going to use a small cam, get the performer.

I have the RPM intake with a 226/230 cam and around 600 lift. Shift points are around 6000 because the cam is advanced quite a bit (107 I believe). The RPM intake will definitely give you more torque below 5000 rpm (or so) which would be very valuable moving a heavy Blazer, mud tires and sludge (mud).

You really have to say how big of a camshaft and what RPM you will be running your engine.

The tires I have are 17 inches wide and 40 inches tall. The old 350 I pulled out turned them ok with 4.56 gears. Im hoping that by building more then twice the motor the tires will turn a little better. I don't want to go much over 7000 RPMs, and I have no idea what cam I want yet. I will probably send my build specs to a cam builder and get something custom ground. I am really not sure at all on what cam I want. This is my first LS build and its already become a Frankenstein motor.

It is not so much about what your maximum RPM might be as it is about where the engine spends the majority of its time. Is it a stick shift or automatic and if it is an automatic what is your stall converter? Tell us what RPM range the motor is usually in while doing the mud thing.

It will be bolted up to an old school SM465 manual transmission. while driving on the roads it will be driven modestly for the most part to try and conserve fuel, and while in the mud drags im sure the motor will be hovering around 5000-7000 for most of the time I am running it through the mud pits.

Sounds like a job for the Victor Jr.
