That was an interesting read. My #1 observation of that article was the cams that had the most retarded ICL made the least torque and average power. I would speculate that if you advanced some of the poor performers for a better DCR, they would have represented themselves much better.

It works for GM.

That makes a good case for getting custom ground cams.

Soooo...

243 flow 256 Look better at more lift
317 flow 240 Look better at lower lift

But you know what they say.... torque moves a car.

L92/LS3 are ??? 320...hhhhmmmmmm.....what to do ?????

Did you say how fast you wanted this new combo to go Doug? 3 Pedals combo is making like 120 MPH at low 11s. He has the LS3 heads and a smallish 227/233 cam if I remember correctly. His Camaro is likely a similar weight to yours, but it is a stick.

Looking for 550+ FW
and say mid 10's

Yes... thinking I might have to bite the bullet and get the LS3 heads making this a LY6 clone. Really not looking forward to another 800+ tab but with the $$$ I saved on the LQ4 (needs rebuild anyway)...I'm about even I guess.
Already have a "worse case" machining price but "may" (crossed fingers) get away with a hone/re-ring/bearing job ? Who knows ??? I really can't be 100% since the motor is still assembled...but ran with NO noises.
Then add in new oil pump,headers,intake,gaskets,ect,ect... I could have this in the car running for $2000-$4500 and making 500+ (more is always better) and 10's ?

I have another guy working up a price on the rebuild also (I trust him more).

I'm confused as well. I found a complete LY6 I can get. Or I can get a LS1 a little cheaper. What to do what to do.

Each has it's advantages. You will have to decide. I have often said that if I did it over again, I would go rectangular port.

My dilema is this.... For the same investment I can end up with a cam only LY6 or a LS1 with cam and Patriot 5.3 Stage 2.5 heads. Just wondering which will perform best.

If you are looking for a specific horsepower number one nice advantage of the LY6 is the ability to run a smaller cam which will increase valvetrain life .
