Default 5.3 1/8th mile testing

So, we got the 85 stock 5.3 swap to the track. Managed 9.2 at 81 mph. This is with full weight, a stock th350 with stock converter and 3.23 gears hitting a turd 2.1 60 foot. Not bad as my best with a 350 tbi motor in a third gen was maybe 9.4. So clearly more power than older setups as we all know.

Hope to get the 3000 in and hit it again, this was on 26x11.5x16s.

My buddy Gus netted 8.0 at 91 mph with a passenger, it was with a 1.9 60 of I remember. Last week he went 7.8 at 92 riding alone. He is dead set on 7.5s before adding bottle. He has a 400 Trans, 4000 converter, 3.90s with the 5.3, custom cam with ported 243s.

Not a bad outing for the 85 ga as a base line but I hoped for a 8.99999

Side note: the 85 TA owner(my little brother) was his first outing at a track in the driver seat, so he had a blast. He is ready for the converter now, lol.

I wish I had the 86 out, damn the bad luck.

Yea, the 5.3 sure shines over the 5.7s of yesteryear considering it is so worn it smokes. Lol

My buddies nova has a 5.3 with the GM hot cam. I think it goes 8.50's on motor and 7.70's on a 100 shot. Good luck with it man.

That cam is not optimal for carb, I bet he has more in it with a specific grind.
