Default Tiiming for N2O

I' ve used nitrous on SBC's for years so I genreally know the rule for retarding timing, fuel requirements, etc. but this is my first try at a LS set-up. I would like input on setting up my MSD6010 for N2O.
The set-up is: 6.0 w/FT pistons w/carb, 232/236@.050 cam, Ported 317's, 10.5CR.
3100#car w/suspension uppgrades, 3.89 gears, N20converter(~3500 stall w/motor), TH350.

In reading posts on this site it appears like most guys are running 36deg. total timing on a carb'd deal. Is this a good place to start for a motor-only set-up?

I don't want to detonate this thing right off the bat. So the plan is, if 36deg is the motor number I'll retard it from there. I'm going run 2-stages so I'll retard the 6010 total for stage#1 and hit the step retard for stage#2.

Comments?

The timing ranges pretty widely from what I have seen. My car runs the fastest at 27 total on the motor on pump gas. But, I have ported 243 heads, 10.9:1 and a smaller cam.

I like to error on the side of caution. I would start out at 25 degrees timing and keep adding timing at the track until it does not gain any MPH.

I would not run nitrous until I knew my optimal timing on the motor as a baseline. then back it off from there.

My car on motor ran well at 29-30º

Pulled 10-12º out for the nitrous

And pulled another 15-20º out to get it to hook on a small tire

With 10.5:1 I would start at 32, then hit the track and go up a degree at a time till mph drops off. If it drops the first time, back off 1 deg at a time till mph drops off.

Thanks guys.

If I can schedule some time on the rollers I can tune on it some before I go to the track and hit it with the gas.

Looking for a low 9 out of this set-up with the two stages. Hoping to get the car to weigh <3000#. But we'll see????
