Grounds are touchy and check your float level. If your emptyin the bowls it will pop ( mine was ) it almost seemed like it hit a limiter only sometimes. Turn out my new carb had plastic from the needle and seat packaging stuck around the needle. Don't trust even the best builders I suppose.

alternator is working, 14v while driving. I found one part of the problem the msd was trying to calculate in the map and advance my timing at idle to 36 deg, so I zeored it, runs a little better. but now i'm getting that rev limiter sputter at wide open throttle. So I'm going to try and raise my floats some and see if that helps.

If you are just cruising, driving normal, the floats have nothing to do with it...
Supply the MSD with ground and power DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY... Then make sure you have adequate ground from battery to frame, engine to frame, etc...
If this is just a street car with a mild cam, it will probably like to have some timing advance in it.. Usually I set my timing curves so it's "all in" by about 2500 RPM..
As for the popping, is it in the mufflers, out the carb, does it vary by RPM?
