Not a clue on size difference, but the pics I have seen of a 6L80 beside a 4L60 looks the same but the tail is thicker for all the extra gear drive.

From what I understand, the 6L is a monster. Guys with first gen camaros are doing major butchery to fit them. If you want the extra gears, a company is making a 5 spd valve body for the 4L80. It splits first gear. TCI has gone a step further and split 1st and second in there 6spd trans. Its a 4L80 also. Lots of versatility in that trans (4L80E).

Ah, didn't know the "tci 6 speed auto" was a 4L80. I'm sure that means it's tough as hell.

Yea, I was very surprised when I found out. I think its pretty cool that they "split" 1st and 2nd to get 6 speeds. Its all in fluid manipulation. That means they didnt have to compromise any hard parts to get 6 gears out of it. If I ever go with an E-trans, it will be the 4L80 with either the 5 spd valve body OR the TCI 6 spd. I think the paddle shifter deal is pretty cool for auto-X or road course play. It wouldnt hurt anything at the 1320, either.

I am trying to wrap my head around how it changes anything if at all as far as gearing. It would still be a 2.48 1st gear I think and that sucks, but I could be wrong. Still a single sorry as far as overdrive ford .75 final gear, I don't see any gain at this point. Just more shifts and that loses time.

Its just all about keeping the engine in the sweet spot at WOT. I saw a test where the 6 spd TCI was worth 3/10ths over a TH400 in a 9 sec drag car. Even after the extra weight and HP sucking 4L80E losses, it still made a huge difference in ET. And you are right about the extra gears to go through, but we are talking about the E generation of transmissions . Just program your shift points and it will be just as consistent as a PG ! No waiting to get up on the cam with a 6 spd, there is a gear in there somewhere that will get you up on the cam, no matter how fast you are going, LOL.

For real, sounds damn good. Like to see it. Going from a junk converter th400 to a 80 with a bad *** converter is .3 in many instances.

Its in Car Craft Oct. 2013 in the Ask Anything dept. Im not sure how to give you the link, but hopefully you can find it from there. On this particular test the TH400/4L80E did 10.33 at 134.2 mph with a 1.56 60ft. The TCI 6 spd did 9.94 at 137.0 with a 1.44 60 ft. The PCS 5 spd ( the one with the valve body conversion for the 4L80E) did 10.18 at 135.0 with a 1.56 60 ft. They also did the GM 6L70E 6 spd. It went 9.97 at 135.6 with a 1.42 60 ft. Notice the 6L70 had the quickest 60 ft. It has by far the lowest 1st gear at 4.03 ! It 60ed quicker than the TCI, but the HP devouring 6L70 lost the 1320 because the TCI has the lighter 4L80E internals. The TCI has a 2.97 first gear.

1200$ something later, my torque converter is on order. Pretty sure I want to see if it gains with a better converter even though it's gaining 50 pounds before swapping to 4.10s.

Speedtigger has had success with circle D converter, but I get to drive to pick mine up. Lol

I'm am dying to see how much it can gain over the BS Revmax. That thing was just tight for a 4500. Circle D is building me a 4400 and setting it up to roll out NA. I'll lock the triple disc converter on nitrous so blow through shouldn't be a problem. Chris at CD said it will be super aggressive all motor, which is what I need.

I had a friend send a Revmax to circle D to fix up and he gained from them putting their expert hands on it, so I hope my expectations are not too much for the over all combo I am looking for. The ability to hit the 1-2 without a problem with the Trans might be some gain, but the better, real converter and some new gears might get me where I need to be. Or closer. I've always wanted to shy away from a expensive converter but you gotta pay to get real results. So be it.

So, once the converter is done next week, I'll hopefully have the Trans in, make a cut to the drive shaft, get her all buttoned up and hit the track.

I do think the 4.10 swap will need some 28x10.5s, but I'll see how the 26x10.5s hold. Still need a hood or lower control arm relocation setup to get a instant center and dial in the back end more.

She will be ready for more street cruising with OD, that's for sure. Just hoping I don't have any trouble getting the outlaw shifter to work.

Yea, go hard or go home, the car will only be getting faster, so I don't need to BS around in the converter department anymore. Seen many gain from a real converter swap nicely, maybe I'll be one of them.
