Throttle cable

Throttle cable Hey guys,
I have a small issue with my set up. I have a 750 Demon carb on a LQ4, which is in my 79 Malibu. If I set my throttle cable to give me full throttle, then it doesnt close enough, causing the engine to idle about 1100-1200rpm. If I adjust the cable to give me a lower idle, then I'm not getting full throttle.
Do I need a longer cable....or do I need more travel in my pedal? The longer cable would just make the problem worse wouldnt it?
An aftermarket cable wouldnt solve anything would it? To me it seems I need more travel one way or the other in my gas pedal??
And another question....what do you guys recommend to be "full throttle" on your carb?? Do you think it needs to be open until the blades are perfectly straight up and down....or a slight pitch towards the front of the carb??

Yea, I did the same thing...the round tube that covers the cable?
I think my problem may be I had the cable adjusted to much towards wide open throttle. I talked to some local guys and they also said that you dont want the throttle plates perfectly straight up and down, I guess they are supposed to lean just a tad towards the front of the carb as I thought.
Readjusting it that way should give me just that little bit, allowing the idle to drop around 800-900.
