Goodness delivered today:

New Crank Pulley from Ryan @ Ballistic Speed.

New valve covers & coil brackets

Off to the machine shop hopefully next week, I'm thinking it might be smart to trial fit the LS engine in my wagon first.........

I know you already bought an F-body pan, but wouldn't a Trailblazer SS or Envoy type pan fit better since they are front sump....or maybe a GTO pan seems like it would be even better??

Cool.....I have a 9 passenger 61 Parkwood (Bel Air wagon) that I'd love to fix as a family car / tow car for my 61 Bel Air in the future, but I'm afraid by the time I have the time and money that there isn't going to be a lot left of it.

That cam is almost identical to the one in my 98 LS1 camaro, it's nice because you sacrifice no bottom end power just to get better power up top... Good all around cam...you got all kinds of goodies man! I got ur PM and will def contact in the future to talk build...where are you located at? If close enough I'd love to help...

bigchief,
your trans/gears are almost the same as I want to run.
What size rear tires were you running ?
Do you have RPM's at certain speeds by any chance ?

I'm looking @ 215/45/17.... maybe 50 series if I have the room.
Trying to decide on 3.55 posi also, this Wagon will see lots of highway driving, but also hit the 1/4 mile every now and then.

Thanks,
Stu

IMO you need more than 215 width tires unless you like burnouts! Lol...I'd look into at minimum 245 width bc that motor with the cam, heads, and intake you are running is going to be making an easy 400hp...fit the biggest tire possible... If worried about mileage on the highway go conservative on the gears...

If running a 4 speed auto transmission 3.73 nets around 2300rpm at 65-70...so just an estimation you would be right around 2000rpm with 3.55 gears

@ wild: you have probably not seen how small these Chevy II's are.
They are fricken tiny.
I "might" be able to get 225's in the back, but I want to run the same front & rear.

@ onefast: there is a cat on Ebay with a close out sale on them, honestly they are still a little to bright for me, I like the dull aluminum look so I might have to media blast them and paint 'em.
Here is the link to the Valve Covers: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160900513952...84.m1423.l2649

Stu

Bigger the better...my L33 just destroys my 215/70s and thats a basically stock motor, yours will be much stronger..

Coming together nicely Stu! I am glad you are staying carbureted, I wish I did. My roommate has a crew cab 1500 GMC 4x4 with 3.55's and the L33, and it has alot of power for the weight. I think with 1000-1500lbs less and the suspension/ steering upgrades that wagon will rip.

I decided to mock it up with the water pump, alt. bracket & alternator.
Then I decided to set my holley double pumper carb. on it just for the heck of it.
Monday morning off to the machine shop..........
I took the valve covers to a gun smith/machine shop I use to work at and media blasted the V.C.'s, then painted them and the intake.... I couldn't stand the valve covers before..... much better now.

Nice build that wagon is definatly going to hall the groceries when done.. You don't happen to have a link to that intake your using? I am in the process, of doing a 5.3 litre myself only mine is a cast iron block.. That cam looks like a possible idea also..

@ Birdracing: there is a cat over on Face Book that has one for sale for $200.00 + delivery right now.
Check under: LSX Part's For Sale or LSX Swap also on F.B.
There are some decent prices there.

@ ThatChevyDude: post up a couple pictures of your wagon here in my thread if you would like.

Thanks guys,
Stu

Ok guys, with the engine combo I'm running.... what size carb am I going to be needing ?
The carb pictured above is off of my other engine seen here: http://spokane.craigslist.org/pts/3985782478.html

I'm looking at Quick Fuel...either 750 or 850.

Dropping a couple things off at the engine shop tomorrow in the AM, hopefully they will have an estimate as to when it's going to be done.
Honestly not a big deal as to when it's ready since I am tearing the car totally apart.

Thanks,
Stu

I would pick the 750 carb. The 850s can be a bit lazy down low on the small motors.

If your experience is like mine, you will be stunned at how fast it is on your first outing.
