And a PLX multigauge Wideband A/F. This thing is slick.

Yeaaaaa im not sure about a speedo just yet. My car had a mechanical speedo from the factory so im not sure just yet on how im going to hook an electrical one up. The 4l60e has a vss that the tcu plugs in and the speed is displayed on the handheld, so i can look on there for speed. I also downloaded a speedo app that is pretty accurate.

I have a speedo app, once I sinc the RPM I just use memory watchin the tach from there.

Small updates, I've been doing a lot of rust removal and painting.

Got the old electric TBI fuel pump out as well.



Cleaned a lot of rust off of the drive shaft and painted it.



Painted these crappy s10 wheels I got for free, they look ok. Don't worry the car doesn't sit that high, it's on a lift haha.



Got the fuel pressure regulator mounted and the line ran too it. I need a new guage though, this one is all flimsy and cheap.

Well people, I have some bad news. I was inspecting inside the spark plug holes just to "see" if it had flat top pistons (4.8) or dished pistons (5.3). And the first hole I looked in cylinder number 4, I rotated the motor with my big ratchet and noticed I could only rotate it about 3/4 a full turn. It would come to a dead stop, while I was scratching my head I meered into the cylinder hole, and looky there I saw 3 large chunks of metal and the piston had a nice big hole in it.

No telling what all happened in there, I can't believe I got jipped on a "good working engine". It really sucks because I was planning on getting this running in about 45 days.

Well I got the headers in! I wasn't planning on running headers as the only company (ssw) that makes long tubes for ls swapped third generation f-bodies start at 800$+ dollars. These are the "eBay versions" made by Racing Innovation and supply.

These are Pretty sweet.

Well I got the rear of the car all put back together today. Fuel tank in as well as springs, new shocks, and the 3" spintech catback.









Only thing left for the rear of the car is mounting the fuel pump and that's pretty much it. Its all forward from there.

I'm doing a 5.3L swap on a 1984 Trans Am, and I just bought some long tube headers. Are you going to use an x pipe behind the trans? Also, will you be able to get the manifold and carb to fit under the stock hood? I haven't found an example of that yet.

I will be running a Y-pipe after the headers, and the intake manifold and carb will fit under the stock hood. BUT only without an air cleaner.

You dont if its out of the car. If its in the car youre going to make a mess when you take the old servo off.

Well I guess I will update this build somewhat. It's going slow because of school, but I will graduate with an associates degree on May13th! So after that this thing can really get rolling. I've got the ls1 oil pan and pickup tube. All I need to stab it in the car is a nice converter. I'm thinking an FTI 3200 will suffice. I may need to purchase a new carburetor as well.
