I'm running a stock thermostat and my car runs 180* all day unless sitting in traffic idling for a long time then it goes about 190-200...remember if your temp isn't high enough you could be robbing yourself of power

I ran a stock 19x in mine and the temps wouldn't go up unless I was hard on it on a hot day with minimal airflow. Now I run a 160 in mine and with a 13" single fan it doesn't get hot even on a 90* day idling around town or cruising. Always runs just over 160 close to 180 on its warmest

That's debatable...on a carb car I would think the extra heat will help the intake warm up which I've always been told is good for preheating air/fuel mixture and helping combustion

I can tell you my engine starts and shuts down way better once warmed when its only 170 vs 210. It wants to diesel at shutdown when it's 190+

Lol yea Wild camaro I just looked at New post I didn't realize this was a carb post. I think a good 180 is good. get to low like a 160 and get on the highway and its so hot the stat stays open thus not letting the coolent cool off and makes the car run hotter then stocker stat would .

I would like to switch out my stock 190° for a 160° to help keep the carb happier. However I have a 2001 5.3 engine. Does anyone have the P/N for this generation of water pump with the intergrated thermostat+housing? Thank you.
