I wouldn't do it unless you have issues like I did with your dash falling apart and such. I'd follow the stunningmans advice and use your existing wiring and switches and pump for a stock engine build. My stock pump handled a 340 hp 305 Sbc just fine (the stock 700r4 now so much) and like he said just run a return style regulator and call it good. Find the wire (he said big red) that powers 12 volts with the key and tap it for your msd box. It should be fairly straight forward I think. I was just giving you options since my build was 180 from the norm.

Ya I got a return reg, I guess ill just roll it all up in the corner and tape all connections not being used. Hopefully I wont have any wiring issues. I ordered a 255lph pump. pump shud see around 90gph, I think iv got my build on the rite track what u guys think?

I know a lot of people bash off the shelf cams but im not lookin to squeeze every last hp out of my 5.3. I was wonderin if this wud b a decent cam http://www.jegs.com/i/COMP+Cams/249/54-424-11/10002/-1
I see its lsa is wide and lift is low and duration is low, so this shud be a great cam to use with out checking piston to valve clearance rite?

I'd say your good to go. For the cam is suggest buying a low mileage take out off from the classified section. Wait for the right one to come up and grab it. 400$ for a cam is a lot. I paid $175 for mine and it was only used very little. Good luck!

if your goin carb, go with a lower lsa. I used this one, no power house for sure, but sounds good and should be pretty peppy.

I originally wanted 108 lsa but lower lsa= less piston to valve clearance and I dont wanna pull heads just to check that, just a temporary budget motor till next winter and thats when ill be goin hog wild
