swapping in a LS3
swapping in a LS3 Ok, got a core engine at work, short story, I have a 07 2500 LY6 6.0 with L92 heads, already been milled .020. My heads have the heavy valves. Would I be better off to swap my valve springs and locks to the LS3 heads and have them milled, or keep what I have? The Ls3 have the hollow valves and are lighter, but dont know about the durability of them. Or is it even worth the trouble? Wonder how its gonna run with the same combo, except bigger bore and probably more compression and less weight on the front end?
Pretty sure the 823's flow a little better on the exhaust side. The valve weight would be a non-issue if your not on the edge of valve-train control. How many rpm's are you turning? what's your camshaft specs and valve spring set-up?
I shift at 7k, lift is 622 and 600, springs are double springs, Lunati, but not sure on specs. They are whatever FTI recommended. Duration is about 239-243 or so. I was thinking the weight may not matter much since my springs were set up for this weight valve. I would think it may be different trying to control the heavy valve with a spring set up for ls3 valves. I figure this 6.0 will run in the 30s this weekend, so i am hoping the added compression, cubes and weight reduction will get the car in the 6teens. In the 1/8 mile of course.
622 600 lift on my cam .231, .243 duration with 111 lobe sep, 108 i/c. Should this clear the ls3 piston, or ??? I know I will check, but be nice if I didnt have to notch.
I would think the lighter valve would be much easier to control, so you could go with a lighter spring and rev quicker. As far as anything Ive ever seen on L92 vrs LS3 heads, they are suppose to be identical castings, just the valves are suppose to be different. Hollow vrs solids.
