Default Best Fuel Filter

Wondering what everybody is running for an inline fuel filter before/after the pump. I'm running a Holley red.. trying to figure out what is going to be best for low restriction without spending $100 per filter.

I'm currently having a fuel starvation problem, that's what's "fueling" this question

For a pre filter on rotary vane pump a 100 micron screen type filter will do. Jegs use to sell one with their name on it for $30 but I couldn't find anything other than 40 microns

One of these 85 micron Earls filters will work

This Russel in line is a good price. Gerotor pumps need 40 micron prefilters

so a 40 micron won't work? I've found some from russell that would probably be ok. I just don't see a need for $100 pre filter...

This is the filter that I use with my Magnafuel 300 pump. Been using the same setup for 9 years and haven't had any problems. Eric L

40 micron works. That is what I run as a prefilter. Mallory suggests 100 micron prefilters for their rotary vane pumps but 40 micron for their more sensitive gerotor pumps.

The big thing with prepump filters is you want low pressure drop across them. Pumps push better than they suck. Generally speaking the larger the micron rating the less pressure drop there will be for a given flow rate. Some manufactures post pressure drop vs. flow

Jegs throws them on sale every now and then. Think I paid under $30 for mine. Was either a russel or jegs store brand.
