Default Alternator question

I have seen post about changing the wiring up to make an alternator wire up correctly. I'm doing my swap into a 85 c10. Curious if anyone knows the easiest way to wire a alternator up. Apparently the ls alt. wiring connections will not match up with my c10's harness. Curious if my one has any input on this

Go get one for a early 90's GM full size truck. One 12v switch wire and one wire to the battery. Others may work but this is the one I use. They are cheap and every auto parts store has them if your broke down beside the road.

I bought a newer large alternator (07+) and wired it up with just the charge wire and it charges at 13.4 volts at idle.

If you go that route it also required a longer belt. I had a 60755 and went with a 60785 or 60790 I don't remember what exactly. I have no power steering and truck accessories. If you didn't know the belt size is measured in inches 0755 is 75.5" and the 6 is the amount of ribs on the belt. Wrap a string around your pulleys and measure it to get your length. Take a little out for the tensioner of course.

You can find 1 wire LS alternators on Ebay. All you do is run a 4 gauge wire from the alternator to the battery and that's it. They're about $100 which is cheaper than a new/re manufactured parts store alternator.

Get a used 96-98 silverado v8 alternator and it fits like factory. Get a harness pig tail for it and you will only need 12v to it when running.

Will the harness already be connected to the 96-98 alternator at the yard?

Yeah, but if your yard is anything like mine they will charge you extra for it. Or, you can get a pig tail from your local autoparts store. Eric L

I used a pigtail adapter from summit the part number is pwm-136. Is a circuit breaker necessary? Is it wired between the 12v wire? What size breaker did you use?
