the 345s will only be on there for fitment. they belong to my wife's chevelle so they need to go back to that build when i'm done checking clearances. the 28x10.5 will be what remains on the car for now. only reason i'm putting in the tubs is because of a poor wheel well repair that i did when i first built the car (some 11 years ago) that finally failed. of course, now i have room for a 29.5x10.5, which i may or may not ever need, lol!

This weekend was pretty full. I wanted to make progress on the car, but also had some other irons in the fire. Thankfully i got to spend about 6 or so hours on the car this weekend. i got the passenger's side tub fitted into place and spent some time working on deleting all the unnecessary bracketry. I got a ways to go on that yet, but every little bit helps.

I have my brother-in-law's pick up truck at the house right now. It came over a while ago cause it needed a front end rebuild and a clutch. it has been a downright nightmare. everything is rusted on it, and the combination of metric and SAE fasteners on this thing is baffling. it's a 2000 dodge dakota. i'm surprised it has much of anything SAE on it honestly! Anyway, i really wanted to get a chunk out of it as it's been at my house going on 2 months now. i'm sure he's going to want his truck back. with the exception of the tune up, that thing is basically done, so this week/weekend i hope to be focused and get some serious work done on the car.
I was able to get a few things done though. I seam sealed the interior side of the tubs. i still need to do the exterior side.

I got a couple goodies in the mail. new steering wheel and the new SmartSpark LS by Daytona Sensors. I had thrown around the idea of going to the Holley HP, but I just can't justify the cost. This box is very capable as far as carbed ls engine management is concerned. I can't wait to get it figured out.

well this week was more of the same. work work work. the a-pillar bars did not show up this week/weekend like i was hoping, so i'm really starting to stress about making the cert date next friday. pressing on where i can, i've managed to get a good bit knocked out.
something that seems to be overlooked, the crotch strap was just bolted to the floor before. i welded a 4"x4"x1/8" plate to the floor for reinforcement.

put the springs in and put a wheel on to see what we're working with. ran the springs all the way up. this is probably not as low as it would actually sit since i have so much stripped off the car right now (hatch, doors, etc).

i noticed some creasing and cracking in the floor. i want to try to spread the load of the drivetrain over the entire car, so i added more bars underneath. those looped bars going to the back are from an old halo bar i had laying around from my very first car. we had intended to do a 10 point in that car, but never came to fruition. i've used the left over tubes here and there. i'm actually sentimentally happy i got to use those here, lol!

put the springs in and put a wheel on to see what we're working with. ran the springs all the way up. this is probably not as low as it would actually sit since i have so much stripped off the car right now (hatch, doors, etc).

i noticed some creasing and cracking in the floor. i want to try to spread the load of the drivetrain over the entire car, so i added more bars underneath. those looped bars going to the back are from an old halo bar i had laying around from my very first car. we had intended to do a 10 point in that car, but never came to fruition. i've used the left over tubes here and there. i'm actually sentimentally happy i got to use those here, lol!

here's where those bars hook up. plated that area with 1/8" plate too.

those 4 bars added 14lbs. i'm constantly on the look out where to take out weight to offset the added structure. found 5lbs here

side profile of the cage. that halo and a-pillar bar is basically undetectable. i'm very pleased.

17lb battery, back up front, but behind the front axle, to reduce the cable length as much as possible

this is a remote battery cutoff. It's nearly identical to a leading racecar wiring company's relay, but half the cost cause it has the Kilovac sticker on it still. Their remote cutoff is identical to the EV200AAANA relay. This is the EV200HAANA, which has an additional small circuit that is given continuity when the state is changed, which would allow for an additional switched circuit. I put a lot of time into the investigation of that relay and to figure out where it came from. I also found their "mushroom cut off switch", but i haven't bought it yet. i'll get it soon.

tonight i pulled the front half of the cage out for full welding. also, i weighed it. it's 39lbs. with the addition of the front half of the cage, and the bars underneath, i'm assuming about 53lbs gain in safety gear. i can think of at least 50lbs that the car has already lost, and am hoping to double that number before race season....
