Carbureted LS it is !
Resto-modding a 77 Corvette and I've been back and forth many, many times on what I wanted to do for power. I always keep going back to a LS and I like the blend of new and old with a carburetor. I'm tempted to start with a GMPP LS327 long block (I think I'm okay with HP / Torque numbers) but I've also thought about doing my own build - then I don't wind up paying for parts I won't wind up using. Can I build my own for less money when you factor in things like the oil pan that I probably can't use if I went with the GMPP long block ?

I bought a used LQ4 that had a 0psi oil pressure issue....it checked out good to rebuild (spun cam bearing).
Had the machine shop hot tank it, hone it, do a few other things I needed/wanted, and build it with the parts I supplied.... ended up costing about 3500-4000ish (not including heads, since I had a new pair of LS3's from SDPC).
You could go either way, IMO, and be OK.(better warranty from GM) BUT....I would rather have it built to what I want Vs. a cookie cutter motor from GM.
There are a few builders that support LS1Tech and have a good following....may want to check them out ?
Just 1 option....http://www.thompsonmotorsports.net/i...th=26_41_43_78

I did start with a LS1 stock with 225 Comp Cam and RPM intake. Car ran low 12 at 114mph

Holley505 nice 77! I mentioned my thinking to my wife the other night and she jumped all over me when I said I was going to go with a 5.3L. She's right of course so I'm planning on doing an carbed LS3. Now if I can just get my 96 sold I'll start ordering parts
