Default Which Edelbrock Intake Manifold? 408 LS

Building 408 LS for an f-body camaro. Mostly race, some street. Trying to build as big a motor as can be streeted. th450. VIctor JR or Super Victor?

Heads will be sent out over the summer to be CNC'd and I'd like to have the intake manifold sent off with them but I need to know which to choose. Wont say who I'm sending them to because I want to focus on the intake manifold. Will see plenty spray occasionally but will be a lot when it gets it.

Leaning towards Vic Jr because Id like to cruise around OCCASIONALLY. Like I said this thing is mostly for racing.

Thanks for the input guys.

You could go either way, but since you said lots of spray, I would pic the Super Vic for the extra volume. It will drive fine with either one on the street in your 400" engine.

Thanks guys. That was easy. Any reason not to choose a dominator over a 4150?

I have no experience with a Dominator personally. But, if I was going 7500 RPM+ in a 400+" engine, I would probably be investigating a 1050 domi.

I figured from what I could see that if I were to buy a carb of 900-1100 cfm I may as well get the dominator. Seems like they're pretty trick coming out of the factory these days.

I run a Super Vic on my 6.0L. It is a little sluggish on the low side street driving, but It really comes to life when you spray it.

Thanks again guys. I think I'm leaning towards the super victor from what yall are saying. Gotta say this site is awesome for this reason. Advice from people with the experience is worth it's weight in gold. Probably leaning towards a dominator and i really like that nitrous outlet puck system. I'd like to keep as much nitrous plumbing hidden as I can to keep those noses guys guessing haha

https://ls1tech.com/forums/nitrous-o...us-outlet.html here you can look at my manifold. Call up nitrous outlet and get it done.

willyP, are you cathedral or rectangle port heads?

When I was trying to choose, I talked to about 8 different carb builders and only one recommended a Dominator. They all agreed the 4150 was a better choice if it was gonna see spray most of the time at the track... I ended up with a 1000 cfm 4150

I have L92's so they are square port. I got a quote from Pro System Carbs and one of the guys there emailed me back with a recommendation on Easter night! Talk about customer service. Even if I wasn't already sold on the quality of their stuff, that kind of customer service pretty much sold me. I think I'll probably go with one of their custom 4150's that the guy there said would be a good fit for my application. Anyway sorry to seem like a salesman. Just getting excited over the work I'm getting done this summer.

Like I said, sending heads and manifold to get ported and get new valve seats and a valve job and I might get the carb this summer too so I can have it all in hand when it comes time to buy a cam kit. Maybe get the block machined too depending on $$$ left.

Thanks for the continued input guys

No not yet. I plan on buying the manifold first and then sending it off with the heads to ported and a valve job etc.

You should have no problem selling your super victor intake. I think they are out of stock everywhere.

I was wondering which intake and size carb Pro Systems told you would best suit your combo.

They didn't recommend an intake manifold but the Carb was in the 1000 cfm range I think.

Well check this out fellas. We have a 408 that is capable of 800hp on motor and will be spraying it with a 200 shot for now. Everyone including the engine builder told use to get a super victor and a 1050cfm 4150 carb. And this will be on E85. So that's what we got. We used the QFT Q-1050-E85. We were having trouble getting the right size jets in there. It would be lean at idle and go fat above idle. Plugs were not consistent, and neither were exhaust temps per cylinder. So after a crap load of plugs and a couple headaches later. I broke down and called three of the top E85 carb builders. Horse Power Innovations, Pro Systems, and Mark Sullens. And to my surprise they all told me the same thing. The super victor has way too much plenum volume and should only be used on motors of 463ci or higher spinning 8500 or better. All three suggested to use the Victor Jr. and there own version of the old 4150 holly double pumper 950 Hp main body that only has 830 cfm. We are going with a Mark Sullens. After talking for at least a half an hour with Mark. And him telling us exactly what was going on with our motor before I even had a chance to say anything. I know we made the right choice. So I would say. IMO. If you want it right, call the guys that know. They said they can build a dominator but it will be restricted to a much lower cfm. They said the 4150 would be a better choice. Better all around drivability.

I had a 850 e85 holley from eric at horsepower innovations on my 6.0 with vic jnr, ~530hp, good enough for 10.0@135

Same carb made 620hp on buddies 383 holden motor

Using the same carb with my original 6.0 upgraded to solid roller and super vic, pushing 630+hp

You may want to try the Vic Jr. Before you get rid of it. You might be surprised. I thought the same thing. Just because it starts out as a 830 doesn't mean it still is. Could be as high as 860. So you got the right carb.
