blown top pan gasket! help plese
hey guys I got a 5.3 carbureted engine from a 2008 gmc, its bored to 3.903, after using her for a few days now with no issue, today I was adjusting my brembo brakes, after some hard stops and adjusting, I give her a small burn out, when i got back I noticed oil under my hood! she blew out the top pan gasket! can someone please help me figure out what happened? its on the passenger side rear, why would she put pressure in the top pan? everything is torqued to the proper specs, thanks

Are you running a PCV ? Under pressure, weakest link ?
I know mine blew out the dipstick, soaking under the hood and getting under the tires on 1 pass.
I added a air/oil separator and a filter or two....no more issues.

6qt. in a pan with 2" cut out ?
I would drain the oil, fix the gasket, and put 4qts in using the dipstick add 1/2 qt at a time (allowing oil to settle/drain to pan) until you find the full mark.
Just sounds like the was too much oil.

Forget that. Move to a different pan and get the volume back up. I would move to the H8 hot rod pan save maybe a inch depending on the truck pan or the CTSV pan might put you where you want to be.

I went the Holley pan route due to this (and no remote oil filter needed) 5.5qt pan plus the filter....so far, no oiling issue (except the time the dipstick was pushed out due to crankcase pressure).
