Default Not enough accelerator pump, carb suggestions?

Hey guys,
I have a 5.3 w/ comp cams 54-451-11 truck cam in it. It's in an '86 K10. That I use for camping and offroading. I put a Edelbrock Thunder AVS 650 on it, runs pretty good, I have the AFR's dialed in EXCEPT on quick throttle changes. I have adjusted the accelerator pump linkage to generate the longest pump stroke but it still wasn't enough. I have already accepted the fact that I need a new carb with more accelerator pump.

What do y'all recommend?

That would work fine for your intended use , If you were racing id say to go with the more expensive ss that has dual metering blocks with four corner idle

I am using a 600 performer now on my 5.3(switching to a 650DP soon). It had a similar problem. The carb came with a #28 squirter, after switching to a #35 it cleared up most of it.

The holley is definitely a better carb when dialed in correctly, but just a suggestion if you still want to play around with the edel.

It's interesting that they don't mention that in the manual. Luckily one of the shops in town has the kit in stock.

I don't know how old the carb is but make sure the rubber on the accel pump itself isn't worn out.

Welp, I put the .043 nozzle in and it still stumbles, but only leans out to 17:1, before was 20:1. It helped but still not quite enough. I'm going to fiddle with it some more I guess.

I wonder if there's a way to modify the linkage so that the shot comes in sooner, like changing a cam on the holley.

Some of the features of the edelbrock are great, but IMO too many flaws for it to be 'tuned to perfection' like FI. Although, if you want a good bolt-on carburetor that doesn't take much fiddling and gets decent mileage, then it's a good start.
