Default need timing advice???

Ok guys got an 85 s10, 07 gen 4 5.3, rods have arp bolts, stock crank, 4.8 flat top pistons, 799 heads ported along with a victor jr intake and a proform 750dp, T-Rex cam, the previous owner was runnning 10.70s, with the best time of a 10.65 a 125, he said the timing was set at 40 degrees total, the tune the truck had was erased and im trying my best to get it back to where it was, took it to the track friday nite and turned the best of an 11.21 @118, 1.60 .60ft, with 39 degrees of timing ramped up until 3000rpm, tje trucks running a pg with a 4400 stall and a 9in with 4.11, if amyone has a similar setup please give me some advice.

Default Spark Advance

Hi S-10, I find the range of 26-32 degrees as common.

Did you verify the 39 degrees on the crankshaft pulley ?

I tried 32-34-36-38 runs back to back....38 slowed me down. I'm now at 35*

I would say to try a few settings to see what it wants.
Also, was this at the same track, or elevation ? DA will effect the ET/MPH

Default TW 58x OR 24xe ?

Hi S-10, The '07 should have the 58x TW though I should ask ?

The common "trim" for the 58x (60-2) is a + 1.75*.
The common "trim" for the 24xe is +11* to +13*.

The LS front pulley has NO key and is unmarked, a problem.

The 6010 "tech" states "use with 24xe"

I would do a TDC "0" AND a 30* pulley/cover mark.

To add to the above, if you want/need to verify TDC, and/or timing.
You could mark TDC and use a dial back timing light ?

just give it what timing gives you best mph at track, start low and work up.
i always thought 35/36 was giving me best mph but when i checked plugs they always looked over timed. so i just dialed it back a little.

Pantera EFI whats the term "trim" and the numbers mean?

Default TDC "trim"

Hi Jerr, the +11* "trim" for the 24xe (6010) is an adder.

Thus, with a Spark Instant of 39*-11* = 28* would be perfect.

Default TDC Measurment Method = "0" Crankshaft

Hi Doug, did YOU measure your TDC = "0" ?

There is not a Mark on the OEM pulley.

Default LS Spark Instant

Hi Doug, NO to the OP's "bad tech" = OP 39* (WOT)
The OP IS OFF TRACK.

The thought of a quality build @ 39* = ENGINE DESTROYED
( NO blame to the OP)

What I state is the TDC "0" reference is OFF when MOST aftermarket Ignition/EFI systems are fitted.
The GM EMS uses a method to find the best Spark Instant, NOT a TDC reference.

The good "tech", your posts (DOUG), my "tech", is to find TDC "0"

I MARK the Crankshaft Rear Flange/Read Seal Cover after the Short Block is assembled for TDC "0".

WHEN I state this on LS-1 Tech, many here call me "IDOT" OR "GAME OVER"

ALL QUALITY engine assemblers will mark the engine for TDC "0", the test !
