Carbed 5.3 build for a super gas chassis truck.
Need some expert help on LS engine build for my super gas tube chassis build. This is a all new build, The Truck will be run primarily in brackets not looking to run any NHRA super gas races. Looking for 9.90 power in a relatively light race car, 450-500 crank HP will get me there. So this is not a max effort deal, looking for a motor that will go 200-250 passes between rebuilds. My primary track will be 1/8mile with some travel tracks being 1/4mile.
Facts.
This is a budget build so I’m thinking cast iron 5.3 with truck heads. I will spend the money if needed to but I’m not in the market to buy a 5000-7000 crete motor. Maybe in the future when I want/need more power. I can pick up 5.3 long blocks for around $300-500. 6.0s are like around 1500-2500. I don’t think I need a 6.0 to make the power I need.
14x32 slicks and weight will be in the 2600-2900 pound range. Depends on how much fiberglass I run.
Single plane intake with holley carb 750-850 on E85. Leaning toward a edelbrock victor or Holley manifold. I do not want to run any power adder or fuel injection.
MSD LS ignition box with coil on plug.
TH400 transmission with transbrake, I will have converter made to spec off dyno results.
Want around 12-1 compression. A little more wouldn’t hurt either.
Assuming this is a 5.3 build. What is the best way to go to get to my 12-1 compression. I would like to find a shelf piston that will get me the 12-1. Anyone know a piston part number? Will I need to bore out to LS1.
Looking for someone in socal that can do the heads? want larger valves with race valve job. Along with a mild port job and port match to intake. I’m thinking of somewhere around $1200 budget for heads.
What is the best cam, I’m assuming I can stick with the stock hyd-roller set up, with my power goals?
Rockers, I hear that the standard truck rocker with upgrade trunnions work fine for the lift and power I plan to make. Or should I just go aftermarket. I’m thinking this will run around 6500 rpm
Again this my first LS build I have read a lot but looking for advice from people that have built something similar. This is not my first engine or race car build just don’t know the LS platform.

Escalade L92
Hi Leg1, I would like to help, I am in Santa Ana, CA.
My Method is to BUY a salvage title or parts only Escalade 2008+ Roll Over damaged "total".
The "bids" start at $500.00 often, with sales common over $1500.00.
I would like you to use my Ignition Control Unit, the IGN-8-LS.
This ignition WILL operate the VVT which NONE of the other choices offer.
This sale is not required for my help if asked ?
My more common customers use the LS engine in their Sand Cars.

These pistons I think were off the shelf, since we had to modify them a little. The heads were milled to 56cc, good valve job, but otherwise stock ports. compression comes in at 13.97-1. Custom cam was done by Ed Curtis, we told him idle didn't matter, nothing matters except starting line to finish line. The car weighed 2755 with driver and aluminum block L33. It has made 7 passes. First pass running out of fuel and hitting a ground electrode on a plug due to a improperly indexed plug, was a 6.37@103, next pass, still running out of fuel was 6.30. Next pass after getting fuel bowls set right was a 6.21 letting off losing 6 mph to avoid breakout. then it ran 6.19 off trailer, 6.176, 6.144 and a 6.133. I was making changes to front end trying to keep it on the ground, and this race had a very long time between rounds. We are pretty sure we had a issue with the pushrods being too long as the Johnson lifters don't like as much preload as ls7, it seemed like after making a pass, the valves were hanging open just slightly causing it to run bad. we have the pushrod issues lined out now, I see no reason why it wont go 6.0s. That should more than get you your 9.90s.
