Default Connecting 6012 to windows 10 issue

I have read a few places about it matters which usb to serial adapter cord you use but nothing saying this sabrent adapter I have will not work. I downloaded the driver for windows 10. When I go to update the driver it shows it is already updated to latest version. I've Uninstalled the driver and tried reinstalling driver but it still gives same message. If I connect the laptop to the 6012 box then open msd viewer it tells me no com port available. With the adapter plugged into the laptop it gives me a message this is not prolific PL2303 in device manager. I've tried about as much as my computer knowledge goes...I need help on figuring out if I need a different cable adapter or I'm missing something on this driver.

My new laptop doesn't even have a serial port.

Had to rebuild old one just for this
