it wouldnt matter if you had a 98-00 they are the same. Are you paranoid that you have an lt1? Look at the side of the heads above the engine coolant temperature sensor and look for 853 on the heads. if it's a 98 or higher your getting the same motor. your a newb huh? what would make you think you have the wrong motor?

I think having bong in his name might have something to do with it , lol j/k. C5 is right,98-00 engines were all the same. There is a huge difference between the LS1 and the LT1, look at some pics and you will be able to tell right off which you have.

98 spec motors have perimeter bolt valve covers with the coils bolted directly to teh valve covers. 99+ has the center bolt valve covers with the coils mounted to a bracket thats bolted to the valve covers.
it is quite possible for ur motor to have been built in 98(mine was since my car was built in august 98), but unless somebody replaced the engine u should have a 99 spec motor

True! All 98 motors had the bolts on the edge of the valve covers (Perimeter mounted valve covers) and coils bolted to the valve covers
99+ had center mounted valve covers and the coils bolted to the brackets and then to the valve covers. This is probably the EASIEST way to determine whether or not you have a 98 ls1
And as far as the differences in the engines, cams and heads are really all they changed other than the 98-00 had 2 small holes in the back of the block for oil to return as opposed to the 01+ ls1's had the whole area opened up to improve oil return. That was the main difference!
Now for tuning, the 98 cars are a little more difficult for tuners to tune!
That was something that keeps coming up when people talk about these cars. But for a heads and cam car, they are fine. Now for forced induction, I'd rather have a 99+ ls1 car just because the tuning can be more precise than on a 98 car.
But both 98 and 99+ ls1 cars are good cars IMO!
Hell, I have a 98
It went 12.99 @ 109mph stock, other than Pacesetter Longtubes and TSP true duals. and a Air Lid with K&N Filter... oh and crappy 2.73 gears!

I appreciate the suggestion though.
BTW I think he does it for like $750.00 or something. And he says for someone trying it them selves, They had better have a tech 2 scanner in case they screw up! And alot of masking tape to mark all of the wires....
