I got the SS cause it was what I DREAMED about when I graduated college, if you WANT an SS...get one.

Plus, they are all #'s cars, which to some, means a little more.

heres food for thought...

even though the ss has a "slighlty better suspension" wouldnt you replace that anways on either car?

I know how much ppl like to lower their cars, and we all know if youre gonna lwoer it you better put some better shocks on it while youre at it. the sway bars ehh, i dont think most people even bother with them either way since they mostly all go in a straight line and not through corners...

I'm making mine a daily driver road racer so I've got a decent launch setup with lca's and brackets and sfc, I've got sways front/rear and they def help with the curves. The full boltons help with smoking whatever Straight line or curves I figure straight line will get old and curves can get old, but not at the same time. I want mine better all around and not only in 1 genre of racing.

Just need to install my panhard today and all I'll need is springs, shocks, and maybe a torque arm to finish my suspension build.

I've never heard of the SS shipped with synthetic oil. They could have, I suppose, but this thread is the first I've heard of it. Usually GM factory synthetic fill cars came with an underhood sticker and/or oil cap.

I guess it's not important, but can someone confirm that?

I will say that if you are looking to modify the car in any way get a Z28 it is way cheaper and since you are getting better aftermarket parts it doesn't matter. If you are looking for a collecting purpose get an SS, or be like me and happen to stumble upon a car that is more rare than most SS's (Hardtop Pewter mostly stripper model Z28 with an auto) I want an SS at some point with an M6 for a daily driver and for canyon runs that will get very minimal mods, if any, and use my Z28 for drag racing as it is perfect for it and she seems to love it (thats what I like to think when her and I have our little talks, and yes I talk to her I love me my camaro's and this one is my baby).

im suprised that no one in this 2 page long thread has stated that the 2001-2002 SS/WS6 came with the LS6 intake, and the reg trans am/formula/z28s did NOT.... also the ss/ws6 M6 models came with 3:42s where z28/trans ams came with 3:23s(i think)... so those of you who say that straight line acceleration is the same, you are wrong.

EVERYTHING YOU SAID IS WRONG!! ALL 01-02 ls1's came with the LS6 intake. And ALL M6's came with 3.42's not matter what type of car it was in. And to the above posters the power steering pump wasnt just on the SS or WS6. By late 01 and 02 it was standard on all LS1's... And the zexel diff was an option not a standard feature.

i agree, i got my SS bc of obvious weight savings and appearance of the hood and spoiler. I love the chrome ten spokes ($1000 sticker option) as one of the best factory camaro wheel options. Mine also came with the Bilstein package that has all the basic pieces upgraded ($1000 sticker option) , and is said to help handling on the skidpad as compared to the Z28. And i admit, it goes around corners fantastic with a firm sports car ride.

UMM SS's weigh more than Z-28 because of the extra options, bigger wheels and tires ect.....

Agreed, if you wanted weight savings my base model Z28 hardtop is pretty much the lightest you will get I need to actually weigh her but based off a hardtop SS a friend of mins has I am guessing mine is similar and weighing in at 3300 lbs, that same friend weighed his ttop SS too and that weighs in at 150lbs more.

I checked with someone who used to work for SLP in those days, specifically Jeffy @ Chirpthird.com. He confirmed that the SS conversion did not include a Mobil 1 fill. The remainder of the list looks about right.

As I mentioned, I was checking at Chirpthird.com on the Mobil 1 issue. SLP did not put in Mobil 1, but someone remembers GM putting Mobil 1 in the Ste. Therese cars starting around MY 2001 to save money on warranty costs; however, GM never announced it.

Someone else said they ordered their SS with the SLP Castrol Syntec option. I never heard of that option, 'cause it wasn't available, to my recollection, when i ordered my '02.

So, I'll probably have to eat crow.

as opposed to a stripper z-28 yes. i meant an equally optioned car sorry. And yes the ten spokes are pretty damn heavy, but the hood and spoiler make up for it
