What can I do with $3,500 for engine work on my LT1 or if I was to buy a crate engine... How far will $3,500 get me if I did the work myself besides the machining?

You should be able to get an LT1 383 stroker for <$3,500.

Used STS Turbo Kit or Used Supercharger would be a better use of th $, unless you need an engine.

Well this motor currently has 127k Miles on it... So I want it to be alive 6 months down the road, if I spray or supercharge the car ill get about that off the motor maybe lol more like a year but still... I guess within that year I can always take an LS1 and build it up.

But would 3,500 get me a LT1 383 stroker built motor or would it get my motor rebuil for around there

I had a forged LT1 383 stroker Built just the shortblock, and it cost me $3600 for everything. BUT I also went to the extreme as to splayed Billet main caps, all arp bolts and studs, manley rods, scat crank, speed pro pistons, and other misc. parts. It was a VERY stout bullet proof bottom end. But by the time all the misc. stuff adds up along with heads and a cam, your looking at $6K - $7K for a built 383 that will put down the numbers.

Unless your looking for a budget build 383 with hyperutectic pistons and powdered rods and a budget crank. Then for about $4,000 you can still have a pretty nice running LT1 383!

Or just buy an LS2 and be done with it. Either way you will have roughly the same power. And the LS2 would benefit you in the long run in my oppinion! LSx based engines are far superior to LTx's but it's all in what you want to do. Either engine can be made FAST!

You can ge an LS2 402 from TSP for $3,900 right now.

So far I do know that you'll need a K-Member, Rack and pinnion, steering shaft, exhaust, transmission, engine, wiring harness and pcm, and some wiring inside the car needs to be respliced or repinned into other connectors, also there will be small things to arise, but it's not as expensive as you think. There have been alot of lsx cars being parted out here lately and you could get everything for the swap for about $1500 or so. Then just the engine and trans. you want and then get it tuned. I'm in the process of swapping a 93 LT1 Z28 over to a 6.0L LQ4 and a th400 transmission!

bang for the buck is lsx IMO

I would look for a deal on a LSx and just start from there since its a better starting point and will be better and more fun in the long run.
