When my dad bought his 02 ws6, it was completely stock.. I could not believe how quiet that thing was! He now has a magnaflow catback on it and it sounds better, but still too quiet for my liking. In comparison, my lt1 IMO is louder and sounds better with just a magnaflow stock replacement muffler. When driving, the ls1 is still very quiet (engine noise and exhaust).. It sounds like its mostly the 'noise' you're worried about, just keep the stock exhaust on there and you might actually find yourself wanting it louder eventually

you are wrong... the reason you hear most ls1s is because most have exhaust on them... most v6s are bone stock...
an ls1 is no louder under normal driving conditions than a v6..
i (a lot of people in this thread) have owned both.. you have owned only a v6.... do you still beg to differ?

We had 3 tune port 3rd gens and they where much louder than my current V6.

Those LS1's are pretty loud even stock. They will wake up the neighborhood if your not careful .

The "noise" you say or pure driving bliss as I prefer, is not too loud at all depending on how you set it up and drive it. I have LTs and a LM with Spiral flow mufflers it sounds barely louder than all stock with an 80 series Flomaster, stay off the throttle and shift early and it's nice and quiet. And I get the same gas mileage as my dad's 3.8RS (when I'm not romping on it of course)
I have driven a V8. I haven't got around to the LT1's or LS1's.

I now have a TSP rumbler and even the most girly of girls get in my car go ohh wow.

Stock exhaust your friends will not mind, and where you cruising Academy? or Powers? cause either way there should be some decent traffic and you shouldn't have an issue.

I used to live in Monument and cruise down to the Springs on Fridays and Saturdays.

Realy get a V8 just as good of gas mileage, I would say vaginas will be all over your face, but you mentioned church so it depends on where you stadn with that. Your friends well.. sorry man tell them to jump off a bridge, a Man's car is supposed to rumble.

Get it, love it, live it, and thank us later.
I'm leaning towards an LT1 TransAm more than an LS1, if I can come across an LS1 car for less than 5k then yes(Which I'm sure its very possible)

How about swaping a V8 into a V6 car?. I'm sure there has to be plenty of LT1's and LS1's sitting around, Id love to put a Donovan in my car but thats a bit out of the price range.

Engine swaps aren't going to be worth your time unless you have a donor car ready with all if not most of the parts.

There's tons of other things than just the motor that go hand in hand for the swap, mounts, suspension, trans, rear, etc...

Trust me, I looked into that too.

You continue to insist that a stock LS1 is loud...stick to the V6. Let that V8 car get into the hands of someone that can really appreciate the WHOLE muscle car experience.

I understand the irritation, he is probably just going off his experience. Which he is in for a big surprise if he thinks an LS1/LT1 is loud.

If you think a stock LS1/LT1 is loud then man you got another thing comin, you are talking about saving up for a supercar, those are pretty damn loud have you ever heard a ferrari or porsche when they are opened up on the freeway? they are louder.

You won't wake anyone up with a completely stock LS1/LT1 car unless you plan on drifting the turns around your neighborhood. Drive one of the cars first then come back and see. If those TPI's were loud then you had an aftermarket exhaust they are quiet.

If you still think they ar loud afterwards, then buy a honda insight, you should be happy then.

Get better shocks, problem solved.

Then the car is not stock. I couldn't hear my buddies bone stock '00 Z28 standing right next to it, he hated the fact it was so quiet.

Clearly you have never heard the stock (non-SLP) exhaust.

ls1 stock is loud. i went from stock to a flowmaster, still thought it sounded like a baby lion trying to learn how to roar, then finally was happy enough (for now) with a borla exhaust.

its all in how you drive it. if your only going to drive it to church and back then spending all that money and all that labor for two hours a week is well... stupid. it sounds like to me that your not the stop light drag racer, which is fine... save money on speeding tickets thats for sure, so keep the v6 and have fun with the tops out. just dont put the badges on it when you dont have the muscle under the hood to back it up, i cant stand it when somebody does that.

Lol at this thread

where's the troll emote when you need it?

My 2cents... Stock ls1's plenty quiet. They are probably one of the most quite n/a cars in the 300hp range. THREE HUNDRED! That number is hard to be said quietly.

If you said you wanted it quiet so you could de-badge it and smoke the pants off your ricer friends, this all could have been avoided.
