+1 but you gotta make sure you get the correct one. from 83-roughly 89 they are borg warner t-5's. after that they were made my world class and are different from the previous models with a few internal differences and the slave cylinder was adapted to inside the bell housing.

also. you can usually find one in a junk yard or a pull and pay. maybe try the classifieds.

Yep they are T5's... I have a friend who has 1 in a 96 Firebird. It would be the same transmission. He'd prolly sell it considering he's been parting out the car for a while now! If you live close to Indy or wouldn't mind the drive, depending on where your located, it may be worth it to you???

I don't know how much he would want, But I'm sure he wouldn't ship it though.

If your interested, lmk. (PM's are the best way to reach me!)

Good Luck

James

half way thru 89 they swapped to the world class, upgraded the blocker rings to brass from a carbon ring, made the bearings into a fixed cage setup, etc etc however a T5 is weak for any performance car, my buddy and i blew thru one in a completely stock 305, they cant handle much shock so if youre looking ro replace your tranny you might as well spring for the T56

you can buy one out of Summit that can handle either 500ftlbs or 600ftlbs

so they can be built to handle power

nice option if you don't want to go into the hassle of retrofitting a t56 or some other stronger trans into an older car like a 3rd gen

yeah in my camaro i've blown through 2 with 450+ hp. it's worth your money and effort to go ahead and get a t-56 if you wanna put down power

Default 1996 rebuild

Hey All! starting my rebuild with my son 1996 with 327 and about 400HP. The car came with a T5 that needs rebuilt. My question is? Thinking I should go with automatic but which one will fit in the original tranny tunnel? 350Tutbo , 400???? Thanks!
