Should I drive my 68 camaro daily?
Here is my question for everyone, I have a 68 camaro that I built with my father and was told by my father he wanted me to have the car and to make it my daily driver. The reason why he wanted this is because the car has been in my family since the show room floor and my aunt owned it and drove it daily and so did my father, well after my father and i replaced the motor with a 350 and built it to be a daily driver I ended buying another car which is my 98 Z28 and I stopped driving it daily. The car never had any problems and ran strong and was more dependable then most of my friends and sometimes my own car. I am currently in college and am tired of making a car payment every month and want to drive my 68 daily. So here's my question should I drive my 68 daily? Its mine and I do not have any payments other then insurance on it or the money I decide to put into it. So want to hear the opinions of the other car fanatics and camaro lovers out there. The reason is I need to pay for college and without a car payment I could pay for more of my school and graduate soon. But I am indecisive about it and can't make up my mind...

go ahead....unless its some super rare Z/28 or yenko car. i would and did. i had 3 different 69 camaros and i didnt mind. in the summer i drove it to work everyday. it was fun as long as i had gas money. what can it hurt?

Great story. Very similar one myself. Dad and I built a 68 that went from my grandmother's cousin new in 1968, to my grandmother, to my uncle, to my father, and eventually to me (stays at his house because he has the garage for it ). Unfortunately being a kid when we started working on it (16, 24 now) I pushed for "race car" parts and so it's by no means a daily driver. I too went and bought a 4th gen Camaro (2000 SS SLP) and the payments/gas/insurance do suck. To be honest I know cars are made to be driven but I'd be afraid some retard would plow into it and ruin it (at which point I would probably kill said retard and go to jail lol). That being said, I would drive it once in a while but idk if I'd use it as a DD.

Thanks for all the ideas, I think thats what I'm going to do is drive my 68 daily. It seems more practical and I will save alot of money and be able to finish school. I agree with most of you that I can always find another 4th gen and buy one again, its just hard to pay or all this and school and books I'm going to graduate in about 1yr and then hopefully off to med school, and with that in mind I need to cut down some costs that I don't need. Thanks for all the posts from everyone, I wasn't able to make up my mind about this. Like I said my dad and I put performance parts into the car but made the car more dependable so it can be my daily driver and still be quick, also its super easy to fix and my dads a mechanic and can fix anything so it doesnt cost much to fix anything on that car anyways. If I can get a pic up i'll show everyone what it looks like.

I had a full optioned '68 396 SS/RS for 16 years and it was a daily driver for about the first 4 of those years until someone hit in the parking lot and left. After that I bought me a truck and it's never been hit. I was so protective of it due to it's rarity it sat in the garage all the time and was never driven and enjoyed so I ended up selling it.
You have to decide if it's worth taking the chance of it getting wrecked or totaled. But, the way I see it now, is it doesn't matter if you drive it everyday or once a month. When all the holes in the cheese line up $hit happens.

Heres some pics of my 68. The pics were a few weeks after I got it out of the body shop and changed the rims to cragar SS wheels and might change them again not sure just yet. But ya thats my 68.

I drove 64-72 Pontiac LeMans, GTOs, and Grand Prix daily for about 10 years from the late 80's through the 90's. Other than gas mileage, comfort issues, and maintenance hassles, the one big downside is brakes. A couple of close calls led me to conclude that this just didn't make sense anymore.
