93' Rear end question
Hi there.. I recently purchased a 93 v6 camaro. I have owned several v8 cars before but nothing as new as this camaro. 2 firebirds and 1 vette.
My question
Is the rear end the same on my v6 car as a 97 v8 car?
The reason im asking is because it has been very poorly maintaned by the previous owner so im kindda taking the entire suspension apart rebuilding it. 1 of the rear springs are broken but i know where to pick up new springs but they came from a 97 v8 model.
He also has an entire rear end lying around from the same car with disc brakes.
Can i swap the complete rear end withou problems or will i need a new driveshaft to do so? or what else should I be aware of?
my 93 came with drum brakes unfortunately so it would be nice to upgrade to discs if possible?
Tim
Also, is the k member the same on all 93-97 models?

The rear end should be the same, the only difference is the gear ratio might be different, or it is a posi diff versus an open diff for the v6 car. The suspension should be the same, from what I remember the springs are the same for all 93-97 camaros, the 98-02 are slightly different spring rates. The k member is the same for the 93-97, and the ls1 k member is the same, just different motor mounts. That is why many people do the ls1 swap in the lt1 cars, drop the k member and bolt up the next one....

All of the '93 V6 cars came w/ the GU5 (3.23 ratio) rear end, but only a small portion also came w/ G80 posi.
ALL V8 f-bods came w/ G80 posi. '97 V8s came with either the GU2 (2.73) or GU5 (3.23) axles if it was an A4, or the GU6 (3.42) if it was a M6. About the only other difference that may be is if the '97 had traction control sensor or the ABS pickup.
