, That's the one with the tappered roller bearing isn't it. Sounds like I might have the option of keeping it instead of just swapping it out when it's time to drop a V-8 LS(something) in there

Its not going to just bolt up to a V8, you have have to change the input shaft and good luck finding a bell housing to make it work.. The T5's are acutally made by Tremic and Borg Warner depending on the year..

Check out our Rallye Sport RS 5-Speed. It is much stronger than T5, shifts as good or better than a T56, has clean 7000rpm shifts, has choice of standard or close ratio gear sets, and bolts up to any GM/Muncie/BWT10 bellhousing. We make bells for all Chevy V8 from 1955 to current LS.
The synchro internals are interchangeable with T56, utilize the advanced carbon fiber lined blocker rings. Three torque levels:
RS 400 Standard Ratio, 400 LBFT, $1495
RS 500 Standard Ratio, 500 LBFT, $1795
RS 600 Close Ratio, 600 LBFT, $2095
We have complete kits for all classic Chevy and BOP muscle cars, as well as many later model apps.
