I have an 89 GTA with a LS1/t56. I also have a M6 01 TA WS6. Both are fun cars. I really don't notice much difference in noise and that's all stuff that can be fixed anyway.
I plan to keep both but if I had to choose I'd keep the 89. I like the way 3rd gens seat ya, if that makes sense. I'm not a huge fan of looking out the giant, laid back windshields on 4th gen cars either. I like the more upright glass of the 3rd gen.
