Default Anyone ever shortened the shaft of the 4l60 shifter?

I've got an '02 Z28 A4 that I daily, my commute is now 80+ miles a day round trip, so there's an awful lot time spent in the car, and I'm finding a few things here and there that I want to change.

What I'd like to do is shorten the steel shifter's shaft by about 2.5" or so, but retain the push button functionality and the OEM leather wrapped ****.

I could always pick up a junk yard shifter and mess with it, but I figured I'd ask here first.

Yep, it's been done. A search brings up some good threads. Here's one.
