The resister key works with the BCM and sends the okay to for the car to start and the PCM to allow the fuel pump. Other than that I don't know of anything you need, but I just know this part from wiring in the Holley EFI to my car.

So on a 98-02 the BCM does contain that key resistance information? I read it was only on the 96-97 bcm. I just got one from a donor car and just in case I'm getting the old key to read the value so I can get a new bypass resistor.

I swapped my BCM a few years ago. I had already done the VATs bypass previous to that.... and yes, you'll have to match it.

Thanks for the confirmation. I don't know what people do when they by a used one without that information.

I can tell ya what I did and it was a pain ... I didn't have the resistance value for my replacement BCM so I used a potentiometer and tested each value (there are 15). Unfortunately every time that I changed the resistance, I had to unplug the battery.... I guess to reset the BCM.
