Haven’t done much except getting the fenders off and cleaned up space for the engine to be removed and a space to tear it down. I need to use my power probe to open the rear hatch so I can not only replace the key tumbler, but so I can start pulling out the carpet and remove the power antenna the guy had installed . . . go back to the non power antenna and run a shorty billet antenna.

The new fenders

Just curious if the rear end springs ever settled more, of if it was still a little high? Great build thread though.

Thank you! Well the car is still on jackstands I’ll be running 285/35/18 tires so the rear should drop some, mainly due to the sidewall.

New GM ZL1 backing plates opened up center note to 4th gen specs

Bare end lol

And with it installed. After talking with Scott at BBU, I decided to run the calipers trailing on all 4 corners. He’s run them for some time this way and hasn’t run into any issues at all.

And finally with the axle slid in. I still need to put in the C-clip and then I’ll put the caliper on. I’ve got all 4 brake lines, just need to order the LT1 e-brake cables.

Once I get the rear done I’ll get the front calipers on and system bled . . . of course having an engine in the car would be nice lol

I always read that you need c-clip eliminator when adding fixed calipers due to brake pad knock back. Will that be an issue here? In for more pics

I was worried about this also. I keep in contact with Scott about the whole set up and he’s actually working on an adapter that will make it so they are floating calipers.

I need to get back to working on it, I’ve just been busy with my work and helping my wife get ready for her new job and we’re also expecting our 2nd born in a few months. My rear 5th gen discs are at the machine shop getting opened up for them to be put on. I dropped them off last week so I really hope they are done lol

Ok so the rear discs are on and this is getting closer! I went ahead and ordered a T/A diff cover because I’ve always wanted one. It’s installed finally and today I ordered my 93-97 e-brake cables to finish the conversion. Once I do that only 3 things left for the rear: paint my calipers, installing the calipers and brakes lines for the rear. I’ll take pics of what I’ve done recently!

And I finally sold my SLP grill sad moment but I’m looking forward to running my billet grill and 1st gen SS grill and the new bumper.

Not bad for a $50 local find. Never been installed or painted (obviously lol) my ebrake cables arrived at autozone yesterday, I’ll pick them up in the morning and starting getting the rear brakes together.

Got a little further this morning. Parking brake cables remover from axle ends, but to remove them from the tunnel I think I’ll need a small cut off wheel and cut the metal clips that hold them. The new cables are shorter and I’ll be routing them a different way, but I won’t know how I’ll route them until I can install the front portion. Put my rear calipers on and then one wheel . . . top to bottom clears but the face just barely clears it. Right now though, the wheel is pressed against the bump stop edge of the body. I know people cut them off, but I was hoping to avoid that. I really wanted to go c5 z06 wheels, but I might just sell them and go another route. I don’t want to though lol anyway here are some pics.

I need to take more pics and be better at it.

This is my favorite build so far. Thanks for elaborating the way you do, it's great to have an idea of what to expect on so many different projects. Car is looking great man, keep it up!

Thank you very much! I need to update the thread with the recent progress of this year, but I’ll wait until I can upload the pics. In the meantime I have a build page on IG @garagebuilt4thgenss

@King Nothing you are preaching to the converted. I almost bought a black 2016 2ss early last year they were asking 28k and it had 29k miles.couldnt figure out how to do it and keep the goat so I never pulled the trigger. Later found it it was an auto and they have known transmission issues, and it had been bounced around dealer ships with no owner for 2 years........... may have dodged a bullet.

Im still on the look out for one. Ive not many any progress on my brakes, but the byrd has got a good tune and a little bit of work shy of being back on the road!

I found out more about the LS7 valve and dry sump issues, those are pretty big issues for an almost $15k engine. I didn’t want to drive it home and with my luck I’d block the engine just cruising.

The 8l90 is a stout transmission. They have had some converter shudder issues but that can be fixed with a fluid change and TCM tune.
