Default Should i buy?

Its a 1991 Camaro RS with a rebuilt Oldsmovile 307 V8. Its rare for someone to put this in but i hear good thungs about the engine as im looking for reliability. i want this car as a daily and to have mild fun with it im not fond of newer cars. I just want to know im making the right choice everything is brand new from suspension to tire rods to even the tranny its garage kept with over 180,000 with the motor put in a few thousand miles ago.

I'd question the sanity of anyone who would install that engine into a Camaro. That's allot more work and effort than grabbing a 350 from a junk yard or doing an LSx swap. I'd probably steer clear of it myself if that's really an Oldsmobile engine. Of that I'd have my doubts. I know nothing about Olds engines other than the motor mounts, bellhousings, and other things were different from Corporate GM engines.

What's probably more accurate is that's a Chevy / GM 305 that's been bored out and rebuilt that may have come from an Oldsmobile after everyone switched to GM corporate engines.

Hey brother. Just so you are aware.....that is not, I repeat, NOT....an Olds 307 (I saw your other post lol). First tipoff, among many, is there has never been a serpentine belt equipped Olds engine. I could get into the other reasons if you'd like. Looks like you just have your garden variety 305 small block. I'd be concerned WHY the owner is passing it off as something its not.

I was gonna just say the same thing. I actually had a "79 Trans Am that had an Olds 307, that's not a 307.

It sounds like someone that had an engine laying around as opposed to purchasing one. There are a glut of cars out there that would burn circles around that oldsmobile engine. Even Third Gen Camaro v8s would smoke it. I say shop around, and buy yourself a reliable Camaro that's fast, fun, and has modern driving and entertainment features. Don't sweat the new stuff; You'd be pleasantly surprised.

I wouldn't go that far. The 307 "Y" engine wasn't the hottest thing out there, but the HO "9" was no slouch.....and from a torque perspective, easily beat the 305 and 350's of the time. I don't know the raw numbers off the top of my head, but I believe the HO "9" version nipped at the heels of the TPI 350. Torque was always the Olds' forte. Keep in mind as well GM was able to keep the electronic Q-Jet on the 307 long after everything else went to fuel injection. I had one in my Dad's Buick Electra, and that thing ran better than pretty much anything else of that era. Don't sleep on a well-built Olds (350 and up).....but me personally, not something I'd put in a 3rd gen.

I had one....my first car had an Olds 350 w/ a 4v. It was a good car and engine. I still wouldn't put it up against a 3rd gen or 4th gen z28, but for the late seventies/early 80's it wasn't bad. HP was anemic during that time so there wasn't a good reference for performance. Performance has exploded as of late, so that's why I say one should take advantage of this and have some fun with a modern v8.

Deduct half value for the engine swap it was not a upgrade.
