I was driving my car one day and it started making this rattling noise on the passenger side and when I got home I let it sit for a bit then went to drive it around to see if it would go away ..couldn't g faster than 30mph and as soon as I got around the corner to my house it ended up shutting off on me wouldn't start back up its been a week now and it cranks really slow or it'll crank one time and then stops it smoked a bit and smelt like burnt rubber when it died I charged the battery up any ideas what it could be ??

I was just going by what you said. To me what you described sounds like symptoms of overheating. Or possibly something going on with the belt drive system. Belt could still be there but brgs are bad? Water pump locking up?
How hard is it to bar the motor?
Any codes stored?
Starter amp draw?
Charging system output?
Coolant level and condition, and oil level and condition?
I would inspect these things first.
Some other things that come to mind are possibly a problem with the catalytic converter? The honey comb can break apart, rattle, and eventually clog the exhaust. But to me this would not effect or cause a slow cranking condition. You can try shaking the exhaust to see if you can hear anything loose inside.
Honestly really sounds like it over heated.
An extremely overheated motor will "rattle" as the motor begins to bind up.
Hard to guess whats wrong from 1000 miles away. Hope its something simple and I'm way out in left field.
