Default Small parts

Got some of the smaller parts for my clutch & transmission swap

31 spline, 4340 Forged chrome moly slip yoke, accepts 1350 series u-joint

1350 (slip yoke) to 3R (Stock driveshaft) conversion U-joint

New bellhousing to block bolts, and new transmission to bellhousing bolts

Prothane trans mount

NOS lower boot (replacing my existing boot with this one regardless of its condition)

Genuine GM rear main seal (easy enough to change while I am doing the clutch and trans)

Default Shifting gears

Started the process of yanking out the transmission and clutch around 1.40 yesterday.

Around 2.30 I had the trans out and ready for its new buyer

While I was at it I decided to replace my rear main seal since I have a small drip periodically coming from the rear of the engine. Turns out, it was MUCH more than a drip

All cleaned up

Replaced the rear cover while I was at it, it's cheap insurance to (hopefully) not have issues again

New monster LT1-S went in with no problems at all

Transmission assembled and ready for install (after verification of slave cylinder clearance which was bang on at 137 thou (monster likes to see between 60 and 200 thou))

Trans went in super smooth, notice the new trans->bellhousing bolts & bellhousing->block bolts. Every faster removed was replaced with an OEM quality or better fastener to aid in future servicing

Strange slip yoke and new 3R->1350 u-joint assembled perfectly into the stock driveshaft

9 hours later (an hour of which spend bleeding the slave) and it is back down and good to go!

Engine appears to out run my tachometer, but it drives like stock and 1-3 are some truly MAGICAL gears now

Bringing it back home this morning

Default First 600 miles with Magnum-f & LT1-S

So after a week and a half of beautiful weather and plenty of driving, I have an update on how the whole system behaves.

The transmission and clutch are shifting smoother by the hour and behaving more and more predictably (which is to say that the clutch is breaking in)

Shifts are crisp and precise and the Gr8 WIYT drives how it SHOULD have from the factory. It is more alive and eager in every gear.

Since the respray and bodywork I have received more compliments than the entire time I have owned it. This pearl white is truly magical and looks different every hour as the sun and sky change color

Default Turn signal woes

Been having issues with my driverside front turn signal, it is not flashing, all others do.

I disabled my DRL by jumping a circuit in the DRL module, and have since tracked down my flasher issue to 5 feet of wire hidden under my dash and the DRL module. Given the ease of access and relative likelyhood of an open wire inside the passenger compartment, I strongly suspect that one of the three relays in my DRL is likely bad. Ordered a new one yesterday and we'll see how it works.

In other news, finally got a chance to use my Badass Covers Fender cover

Excellent product made by some great people out of some quality materials, can't thank them enough for their help and support!

I'm working on a very similar build to yours with my 2000 SS. Enjoy being able to see your progress. I'm going to get a thread for my build going here shortly, just havent sat down and done so yet. Thanks for sharing your build.

Rock on my guy! I look forward to seeing your build progress. I can't emphasize enough how helpful it is to sit down and build a spreadsheet of the parts you want, links to where you can get them, and price you'll pay. It makes the whole project a LOT more manageable. Additionally, you can see your build progress in real time as parts are checked off the list

What coil packs are you guys running? MSD has the blasters and then the pro's ....didn't know about accel or normal GM's....since it's an LS7 into LS1 car, do i need to do any wire harness adapters? what about the hot wire harness deal that i see? is this recommended?

I have yet to swap engines, though I plan to use as many OEM essentials as possible, it is a car that'll get driven and I want to be able to grab a coil/sensor in most any town. Can't say I've dug into the details of the swap yet so unfortunately I can't help you much on suggesting a direction to go

This thread title makes me think of a certain 80's hair band.

Any updates?

Yessir, got my Carbon front grill mounted and installed, aside from that it has been a lot of driving and enjoying for now (some firearm projects have occupied money for the time being) but the next step is air ride & rear end

Firearms. Ah yes, that's a good project division as well.
