Default Throttle Response Lag between 3000 and 4000 rpm

What's up everyone. Quick question. I've got a basically stock '99 SS with 64K miles on it. Overall, it stills drives great. Just recently, I started noticing a dip in throttle response between 3000 and 4000 rpm. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this. Thanks.

Plugs and/or wires maybe? Check the plug wires, first, to make sure they're all connected. If they are, check the plugs. You don't have an exhaust leak do you? Do you hear any strange tapping noises coming from the engine?

Actually I do hear tapping noises. Is that a matter of simply checking and tightening the bolts on the headers or the flanges on the y-pipes.
