69 Camaro Engine Help....
Hello All. I need an engine for my 1st gen camaro. I want a small block and I want to run on pump gas and I will be driving this whenever there is no snow on the ground. That being said How much reliable HP/TQ can I get out of a 4bolt 350??
I have seen many engines on ebay that promise 325 hp for around 1900.00. Right now I have a 79 2bolt camaro 350 that I estimate has probably 200hp (pretty much stock motor) I also have a 5speed t5 world class tranny. Will I need a beefier tranny.
Any help is greatly appreciated, I figure that getting a new motor is cheaper than buying a new car.
Thanks alot-
Ben

it all depnds on what you want to spend and what the car will be used for. A T5 should hold up okay for a while provided you don't race it all the time, otherwise beefier internals may be required (that's a guess b/c I'm an auto guy). I had a 355 built a while back with a dual plane intake, 750 holley vacuum-sec carb, mile crane hydraulic cam, stock world products heads and a 2-1/2" exhaust system. Mostly stock parts used for pistons, crank and rods. It lasted 7 years with lots of daily driving and racing. Ran 13.40's at 100 mph in a 3900 lb 72 Chevelle with 3.55 gears and 2800 stall 11" convertor. You can built a good 350-375 hp 350 motor for $2,000-$3,500 depending on your choices. Crate motors are nice too, it just depends whether you want what they offer or you want to create you own distinct engine. I've got a 4-bolt main 350 block stroked to 383 inches putting down 372 rwhp and 492 rwtq, and only words of advice: use quality fasteners!
Good luck!
