ls1 swap into a 1969 camaro
i have been thinking about putting a ls1 and 4L60 in my 1969 camaro and all I know is that I have to put a rack steering on the car for the oil pan not to hit but that is about all I know on this thought. can any one lead me in the right direction to get this done? also what does everyone think of this idea?

It's quite doable and has been done. You should check out the"Conversions and Hybrids" forum here for more on both of these cars and these swaps. Lots of valuable info in there. Just be warned: the swap ain't cheap.

yep, a few ways to do it (expensive drop-in or hack-up cheaper). Year One did a nice 69 conv one, and Tony (Nineball) has done one up as well.

Dude, you don't have to get a rack 'n peanut setup to make this work out. Go to conversions, look up our thread (Story of our 67 swap), Rodders thread (Story of his 68 swap), and the thread (Story of most first gen swaps) in the stickies. Not a hard swap at all!!!! You will find a lot of different ways to do the same thing. Check the car in my fquick below, my wife built that 67 in 3 months from the day we ordered the first part to the day we where driving it.

I swapped a LS7 into my 69 and used the same front clip. had to knotch the crossmember however. Regardless it won't be a fast and cheap swap.
Steve Rupp at Popular Hot Rodding put a LS2 into his 68 and wrote several very informative articles on the process along with pics in recent past issues of PHR. He posts on here and is a moderator on Pro-Touring.com, he can probably set you up with the issues. Like Nine-Ball posted there is a ton of info out there. Its been done.
Besides the drive-train you will need a new electrical harness PCM/ECU, new or improved fuel system, cooling system change or upgrade, different gauge set-up, the accessory system will change. Don't let it be intimidating, take it a step at a time. It can be a fun learning process and you'll know all about the guts of your car when done. Also check out Team Camaro.com and Tony E. Huntimer's book How to Build Pro-touring GM Street Machines for more info.
