First off try a search and browse through the external engine forum, lots of good info an opinions.

Remember there is no right or wrong with exhausts.

Flowmaster to tend not to flow as well as many of the others, so as a performance exhaust it is slightly lacking, but many like the sound.

To check out the sounds have a look at www.ls1sounds.com

Catbacks are a great idea as they are an easy bolt on mod. Duals are a little more difficult, there are some kits. Most dump before the axel so they are very loud, some go out the back. However if you are going to the hassle of duals I would recommend doing the headers at the same time. With a catback it's a bit easier as you won't have to fab anything at a later date.

Expensive systems:
-Stainless Works
-GMMG
-Corse
-Borla

Cheaper stainless setups:
-SLP Loud Mouth
-Magnaflow

There are also cheaper mild steel exhausts:
-Hooker Aero chamber
-TSP Rumbler
-Random Technology PowerMax

Best bet have a browse about the site and take a look at the sponsors (on the right --->) and see whats available and at what price.

NOTE: 99% of the people you ask will always recommend what they have regardless of whether it is the best or not. So do your research and make your own mind up.

I have always heard people say that flowmaster has less power, does anybody have dyno proof?

Yeah I've seen a couple, upto 15rwhp was the highest, but that's probably rare.

5-10rwhp on a 'good' bolt on car.

There's some additional info from David Vizard in the mod/exhaust sticky in the external engine forum. Basically the muffler used by Flowmaster is good with upto 265bhp. So on a Mustang (it has duals so each muffler only has to handle half the bhp) it would be fine.

But a stock LS1 (~345bhp) is way too much power. Again with duals on a stock LS1 it would be ok as it would only need to flow well enough for (345/2 = 172.5bhp).

I just dynoed my 383 with true duals last night thru 2 1/2 inch 40 series flows and only lost 2 hp when i capped up my dumps. Was suprising.
